Grant Details

The Made In Montana Grant provides $1,250 to support Montana artists in recording their music while creating paid work for local recording professionals. Most grants are applied toward the completion of a single song or track, though funds may be used across multiple songs or tracks as part of a recording project.


Grant funds are paid directly toward eligible recording expenses. Recording Fund will issue payment to one or more approved service providers for costs such as:


  • Studio time

  • Producers

  • Engineers

  • Studio musicians

  • Mixing

  • Mastering


Service providers are selected and vetted by the applicant. If awarded, grantees must submit a Grant Use Budget for review and approval upon execution of the grant agreement.

  • Be 18 years of age or older

  • Live in the United States

  • Be a U.S. citizen

  • Be a Montana resident

  • Make under $100,000, pre-tax, annually

The Made In Montana grant is for music makers who are Montana residents and 18 years of age or older only. While we accept applications from artists at any stage of their journey, our mission is to support diverse artists who have demonstrated drive and determination.

We understand that home recording is a valuable asset to the modern musician, and we hope that this grant can support this process by providing funding for services that might not be possible in your home studio or with your skill set, such as mixing, mastering, and full-band live recording.

Spring 2026 Grant Schedule: Updated


To better serve Montana’s artists and musicians, Recording Fund is expanding the Made in Montana Grant into two application cycles in 2026: Spring and Summer. As part of this expansion, we are extending the current application deadline to February 15, 2026. This will serve as the Spring grant cycle, with applications reviewed and awards announced by March 15, 2026.


A Summer grant cycle will follow, with an application deadline of July 15, 2026. Applications not selected in the Spring cycle will be reconsidered alongside new submissions received by the Summer deadline - and selections will be made within 4-6 weeks of the deadline.

Applications must be submitted via the application portal by 11:59 PM MST on February 15, 2026 MST. The application will be closed after this time.

Selection Period

Feb 16 - Mar 15


A selection committee will review applications throughout February.

Award notifcation

Mid March


Selected applicants will be notified by mid-March—exact date TBA. Awardees will have access to grant funds upon notification.

Grante Use Period

March to June 2026


From the time of notification of the award and the signing of the grant agreement, grantees will have 3 months to use their grant funding.


Our hope is for this period to be mid-March to mid-June.

  • Grantees may be asked to participate in Impact Stories (click) or other promotional content highlighting the Made In Montana grant program and the completed work.


  • We love celebrating the music made through this grant and sharing the story behind it. Grantees are expected to participate in good-faith co-promotion of the finished project—through social media, press, and related channels—so we can amplify its reach together!
